Our cost guide puts a typical two-hour party booking at US$250 to US$700, depending on the city and the reader. Most event readers set a two-hour minimum. These are US-dollar estimates; each reader quotes in their own currency. If you only need about ninety minutes, ask whether the reader will take a shorter booking.

Four to eight weeks ahead for normal weekends. October dates, December holiday parties and New Year's Eve book out earliest, often two to three months ahead. Short notice? Use the enquiry form on a published profile to ask about your date and guest count.

With readings of 10 to 15 minutes, one reader sees about 4 to 6 guests an hour. Six to twelve guests suits a two-hour booking, so everyone gets a proper reading.

The reader works between courses or after dessert, reading for guests one at a time in a side room or at the end of the table.

Ninety minutes to two hours covers most dinner parties, timed to start as the main course winds down.
